Overview

About this course

The Care Certificate is the recognised induction standard for anyone starting a role in health or social care in England. It sets out the minimum standards that should be covered as part of induction training for new care workers, and is widely used and recognised by NHS trusts, care homes, domiciliary care agencies and private healthcare providers across the UK. Our Care Certificate — Standard 1–16 with Workbook takes learners through every one of the 16 standards, from understanding your role and duty of care through to safeguarding, health and safety, infection prevention and basic life support. The workbook format allows you to work through each standard at your own pace, building a genuine understanding of what excellent, safe, person-centred care looks like in practice — with your employer signing off your competency for each standard as you progress. Whether you are completely new to care or looking to formally evidence induction training you have already received on the job, this qualification gives you (and your employer) a nationally recognised record that the fundamentals are in place.

FAQ

Common questions

Is the workbook completed alone or with my employer?
Both — you work through the standards independently, and your employer signs off your competency for each standard as part of your workplace induction.
How long does it take?
Most learners complete the Care Certificate within 6–12 weeks, depending on how it fits alongside your induction at work.
Is this the same as an NVQ?
No — the Care Certificate is an induction-level standard, not an NVQ. It is a strong foundation before progressing onto an NVQ Level 2 or 3 Diploma in Adult Care.
Do I need this if I already have care experience?
Many employers require the Care Certificate regardless of prior experience, as it provides a consistent, evidenced record of induction training.
