Assessor L3 (A1 or CAVA)

Every day, vocational assessors across the UK sit down with learners and make decisions that shape careers. The Level 3 Award in Assessing Vocational Achievement — widely known by its earlier name, CAVA, and often still referenced as the A1 assessor award — is the cornerstone assessor qualification in the UK. It is the standard recognised and required by every major awarding organisation, including City & Guilds, NCFE, Pearson, TQUK and HABC. If you assess learners towards NVQ diplomas, competency-based awards, or any other regulated vocational qualification, this award is either already required or will be. This qualification transforms how you think about assessment. Before it, most assessors assess by instinct. Afterwards, you assess by principle — understanding validity, reliability, authenticity, currency and sufficiency; designing assessment plans that build a coherent and fair picture of competence; and giving feedback that genuinely motivates and develops the learners in your care.
