Overview

About this course

Functional Skills at Level 1 gives adult learners a solid, practical grounding in English and Maths, built specifically around real-world contexts rather than classroom theory. It is the qualification thousands of adults use to rebuild their confidence in literacy and numeracy — and the recognised entry requirement for many NVQ Level 2 diplomas and apprenticeship programmes. Everything is delivered online through our learner portal with expert tutor feedback and support throughout, and exam fees for both subjects are included in your programme fee. Most learners use Level 1 as a stepping stone straight into Level 2, completing both within a single continuous study plan.

FAQ

Common questions

Is Level 1 enough for most jobs?
Level 1 meets some entry requirements, but most employers and Level 3 qualifications ask for Level 2 (GCSE-equivalent). Level 1 is a strong stepping stone towards that.
Are exams included in the fee?
Yes — exam fees for both English and Maths are included in your course fee.
Can I go straight to Level 2 instead?
If you are already confident with basic literacy and numeracy, you may be able to start directly at Level 2 — speak to our team for an informal assessment.
